Kristiina Paul (kriskanadas@gmail.com)
I handle everything involved in photo research, from finding the images (if needed) to licensing, including finding the copyright holders, negotiating rights and fees, checking the files for quality. Some authors have very specific images in mind so I try to get those and when impossible, try to find suitable alternatives; other authors just give me a list of concepts and I do the research from scratch and present them with options.
When needed I also look after text permissions such as excerpts from other published sources, lyrics, maps and graphs and charts.
And on occasion, while it's not really within the scope of permissions, I find a photographer to shoot an image, or take one myself, or work with an illustrator to get the art we need. Pretty much whatever it takes to get the best licensed content to make the best book.
